I'm looking for some friendly advice
I recently had my car keyed
I'm about to have it fixed. The problem that I have now.. is that right now would be the perfect time have a M-Tech kit installed, BUT then I start pondering the idea of saving the money that I would spend on the kit and using it towards a 550.
Why should I install the kit if I would eventually upgrade to a 550 right? BUT I'm not sure I would upgrade to a 550 at all yet
What to do? :\ I have a few days to decide.

Well, this is all about cost vs. benefit for you. If you're planning on getting another E60 of any kind within the next couple of years or so, I wouldn't waste my money. You're talking $2500-$3000 once everything is said and done for the parts, painting, and installation, and this is for something that's just cosmetic on a car you might get rid of.
Now, you could argue the pros:
- Looks good
- Makes you feel good about your car
- Might increase resale value, but definitely not as much as you put into it
- Did I mention looks good?![Wink](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/wink.gif)
Cons:
- May be disposing of vehicle soon, and will have opportunity to get M Aero Kit on next E60
- Very expensive, considering it's almost completely cosmetic
- If you amortize the cost over, say, 2 years, it's the equivalent of an extra $100/month - not saying this is the best way to look at it, but it's often how I gauge whether something is worthwhile given other traditional "monthly" expenses
Now, if you said you planned on keeping this car a while for sure, I'd say go for it. But if there's a good chance another E60 is on the way, I'd hold off on the goodies for the newcomer.

thanks for the comments. I might take up that offer ch7656.
das you made some great points. The extra monthly expense example really makes it easier to decide.
I'm leaning towards just fixing car now and holding out for a v8. I'm itching for more power
I'll have to run the numbers and see if a v8 is in my future.

Wait until you get the 550, then install on the 550.

Well if you are thinking of getting the same color car what if you buy it now install on your 525 and just transfer the M-Tech to the 550 later? Just a thought...
AH just get the 550 NOW along with the M-Tech.

IMO, if it's more than 2 years away till you get another car like a 550, I would go for the kit now. I just think if you can, enjoy things now instead of planning to enjoy something in the future. I understand the financial point but I think the big grin you'll be wearing driving your decked out car is well worth the $100/mo price.
The sooner you put it on, the happier you'll be and the more time you have to enjoy it.
Just my .02
That said, I agree with EMBCS03, get a 550 with the M Kit now...
