Default ABS Pump/Control Module - can't find a suitable replacement

Cross post from my original one here: https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...1#post13145249

I have been told that my ABS pump has failed (due to me accidentally crossing jumper wires in the engine bay whilst trying to jump the car a few months ago... I KNOW)

I'm having a tough time trying to find a replacement, because the part number seems so specific. Here's the info that I have:

Module Part Numbe (sticker)r: 3451-6772449-01
Pump Part Number (stamped into housing): 0-265-236-010 3451-6768550-01

Car: 2006 BMW E61 530xi Touring

VIN
WBANN73576CN01933

Thoughts:
  • The similar part number on the sticker and the pump housing don't even match, which leads me to believe that this was replaced in the past?
  • Does a replacement pump/module need to match EXACTLY? Or are there a range of part numbers that will work?
  • I looked up my VIN on realoem.com and did some looking. New pumps/control modules are 3K, which is a no-go for me
  • Used parts seem plentiful but none of the part numbers I found match, the closest lead I have is this site: https://www.tlsautorecycling.com/sea...7/bmw/530i/545
    • Does anyone with experience with this know if those pumps/modules from that link above will fit?
  • If I were to replace the control module will I need to link it up to the ECU via the diagnostics program?

Thank you for your advice!

I have replaced those in a 5 series and 7 series. They were plug and play (only if new). Model numbers change all the time.

I can't believe it cost $3000. I replaced a 06 7 series a few years back and it was only $500 (somewhere around that price) brand new. What's your year and make? It will help us narrow it down.

Yep, still $500.

DSC REPAIR UNIT (Pelican Parts)
DSC REPAIR UNIT (Parts Container)

I see why you're saying $3000. It's the module you fried. You're trying to replace the whole thing.

Well, here's the story. The alternator was failing about 6 months ago, and I tried to jump-start the car from the engine bay positive terminal. I crossed the cables Every since then the ABS/4x4/DSC lights have been on and I have no ABS. I took the car in for diagnostics, and I was told it was the actual pump that was throwing an error. This leads me to believe that I'll need the whole unit.

No, the pump does what the module tells it to do. If you have all the lights on change the module, it's what's giving you the errors. You can only fry the board that's in the module you can't fry the fluid and internals of the unit.

I can guarantee if the person knows about the repair kit that is all they were going to install and change you for the whole unit. I have never had to replace the whole unit just the module.

Interesting, thank you for your help with this. I don't have a reason to distrust the mechanic, because he was good to me for other things, but what you said does make sense for sure. Quick question, I've also seen rebuild kits (on Pelican, etc) for the pump itself, so under what circumstances would the pump fail and need all of the valves replaced? I get that my mistake and the symptoms lead me to the control module, so I will start exploring that. Thank you.

I would think not changing your brake fluid out regularly. I've never seen the unit go bad and I've replaced bad modules on cars over 200k with the fluid not changed like it's supposed to. I personally have not seen a unit fail but definitely module failure.

Could the mechanic communicate to the module?

Interesting; did you happen to have a proper scanner pull codes from the car?
