i love the 6 series 118 style rim. my friend has it and whts to upgrade his rims to 21" black ones.
i was thinking of buying his rims (as they are in perfect condition)
my question is, can it fit on my 520 E60. is there an offset difference or any problem regarding the size or width or anything
all i know is that im forced to change the wheels as they are 245/45 and on my door size it says, max 245/40, or else the wheel will rub.
Any advice?

It should fit OK, but i am not an expert so need other peers to confirm.
But as far as i know 6series wheels will fit E60 with no problem. And 245/45 will not rub in E60

Pretty sure 245/45/18 will not rub 
I had 245/35/19 on my 5er and heard some put 20" wheels on them with no rubbing issues at all.

Just considering tire size (not offset differences) I think they could rub. The winter tires I'm using now are 235/45/18 and if I hit a bump when turning pretty sharply and going over about 15 mph they will rub very slightly in the front. I haven't checked where it rubs since it is so minor and I will only use these tires through this winter, but if they were 245's I think it would be much more of a problem on my car.

The wider you go, the offset becomes more critical (to the point where you could rub inside and outside). I can't answer the OPs question but sport packages come with 245/35-19 front and they have no problems. A 245/45-18 should have no problem (if the proper offset on the wheel) but might be a bit taller and throw the speedo off a bit.
so how will i know if the offset is correct.those rims have ET 14 offset.will they fit. and as jpj said,do u think they will rub the 245/45/18

Let me clarify a little -- I haven't checked where mine rubs, but suspect it is the tire hitting the wheel well liner. This is based on how it only rubs when the suspension is being compressed (hitting a bump). So I think a taller, and wider, tire would have even more issues (would rub more often and over smaller bumps). My ASA wheels are 18 x 8 and I think ET 18, don't remember the offfset for certain. My car is also lowered, so that plays a role as well.
Offset is such a factor it is often hard to compare between different wheels. Even between brands/models of tires there can be significant differences for the same "size" tire.
I think the bottom line is that the wheels will be fine for sure, but the tires are not the prefect size for an E60. You could have some rubbing or might not. If the fronts rub and the backs are OK you could always replace only the front tires with matching 245/40's and save the extra pair of 245/45 for when you need the rears replaced.
