Hi guys!
Yesterday I was surfing the net and I have found :
http://www.sportautomoto.com/forum/f...s.asp?TID=1411
(scroll down)
A modded 550i made by a garage named caal racing, 4-500 km far from here .
I have found also :
http://www.eurosuperstars.com/teams_...1.asp?codice=1
with phone number ...
I have called them and that man told me they begun from a manual 550i .
I have asked for first about gears and LSD and he said that they have installed the M5 E39 differential changing the LSD (the M5 diff is only 20% and they need more) .
I have asked about ring and pinion of the 645ci differential, if they could be installed in 545i differential : he said it isn't possible because the sizes are different .
I don't know if it is true, but they know the 5 better than me and I have to trust them .
The only thing he have suggested to me is to unmount my diff, find a 645ci to unmount its differential and watch if drive shafts and axles of 545 and 645 have the same juncture .
My dealer now has a second-hand 645ci to sell, but I doubt he would make the operation .
The point is that I think that 3.23 (with rev limiter to 6800 you would obtain thos gears : kmh 62-106-157-210-260-297) final drive ratio would be the best compromise for manual/smg 545i, beetwen performance and highway drive .
3.23 ring and pinion (-11% gears) are sold by :
a) Racing Dynamics, EUR 2000 shipped
b) Koala Motor Sport, EUR 1350 + shipped
I have mailed vacmotors.com but they haven't answered : somebody here could call them by phone ?
Do you know other stores that sell parts for BMW differential, so we could ask if they have 3.23 ?
(nobody in EU ?)
Manual/SMG 545i/550i have too long gears and this is a problem that must be solved, once and for all!
(at least in my opinion)
