Took the automatic flywheel off and drained the oil out so that the rear main seal could be removed/replaced. Didn't look like there were any coolant or oil leaks. Here is a photo of the block before removing the original rms, the new and old rms, photo of block without rms and photo of the block with new rms installed.

Cleared the holes for the shifter and clutch hard line and installed the clutch hard line. The great thing about this retrofit so far is that everything just snaps in to place!

applaud your efforts.. the electronic of this car is just bananas. Sure Isn't like the 1990's when dropping in b16s and b18s into civics or when turbos were 1-2grand tuned and installed.. haha.

Might want to try reprogramming certain modules with a proper VO code to remove the automatic tranny option.

Might have to recode other modules as well with the new VO code. Sure theres plenty of more knowledgeable people in BMW coding to help you through this.

Oh, if you're looking at gauges, check this out! Works great on my N54, and the datalogging is awesome, not sure if you would be able to use this to do other functionality however.

Yep. Going to work on coding afterwards. Might even do this myself to get familiar with the process. That datalogging tool looks pretty neat!

Update:

Decided not to use the balanced Dinan clutch since it didn't look suitable for the job so if any of you Dinan fans out there want a Dinan (Hines balanced OEM) clutch, I'll let it go for $325.00. Photos of the clutch are somewhere in an earlier post in this thread.

New Spec Stage 3+ clutch should be coming off the mill and dropped in to the mail sometime this week. Will post photos of it when it arrives.

It's mainly sold as a tuning / flashing tool for the N54 guys, but it can do diagnostics on ALL OBD2 BMW cars. Mainly resetting adaptations at this point. It can read DME codes only at this point.

I'm not sure about the real time display on non N54 cars, so you might want to contact Vishnu to see if it works properly.

Did you go with the 6-puck carbon spec clutch?

I daily drove one about 8 years ago and it was a handful on the street. Starting on a good sized hill with a high horse power motor was always fun haha! It was bake the tires or buck like crazy, even more nerve racking with a cop behind you! Once you get the hang of the on/off feathering the clutch was pretty awesome when you pushed the motor. I could start in second, dump the clutch, and it would hook up and fry the tires for yards (on street tires not slicks).

Right on. Thank you. I'll probably end up tapping the factory harness and pulling data from existing sensors without even going the OBDII route.

Haha..didn't even consider the police behind at an intersection part! Ended up getting the Stage 3+ carbon semi-metallic full faced clutch and not the Stage 3 6-puck carbon-graphite clutch. Am hoping the full-faced version isn't a bake or buck on/off switch like the pucked version but we will see. Sounds like your car was a blast to toy around with. Got photos?

When you're ready to sell, let me know. Seriously, I love your car.

I do, it was back when superchargers were just in their infancy on a DOHC cobra. The full-faced clutch will be night and day better compared to the pucked design. We had a simliar setup with a full-faced stage III Ram kevlar clutch and the engagement was like just like stock and had a good range in the pedal. The pucked design was better suited for the track as they would violently hook up no matter what.

You sir have the best of both worlds, luxury and one hell of a DOHC motor!

Haha. Luxury is long gone at this point. It's pretty loud and jumpy when you get on the pedal now. Been debating stripping the interior down to bare metal.

In other news the clutch came in and it appears better suited for the job. Below are a few photos of the SPEC clutch next to a brand new Dinan (balanced OEM) one.

The new output flange arrived at BMW so decided to pull the old one off and check to see if the spline count was the same. Man was it a pain in the ass to take off. Had to hire some guy down the street with a air hammer and 40mm deep socket to pull the nut off. This is one day after he couldn't pull the nut off so I let it soak submerged in PB blaster overnight. Once the nut was off his puller wasn't capable of pulling the flange off to a quick visit to Sears, some muscle and a few cusswords later the flange came off...and the spline count is the same as the new flange that BMW parts has waiting to pick up!

Ended up fitting the lightened flywheel and clutch on to the car as well.
