Hello all- I have 2010 550i with the M Sport package. I want to upgrade my stock exhaust. I don't see any benefit of going to a quad setup, except looks, and I don't want to modify my rear bumper. I also don't want to spend over $1,000. For the 8-13 hp gain I can't justify more than a $1,000. I basically want the car to sound like a V8 sports car, but not overly loud. No droning on the highway, but I definitely want to know I put the pedal to the floor. My research has brought two candidates: Remus and RPI. I believe the RPI is louder but not sure. If anyone has input or owns either exhaust please chime in. Are there any modifications for the install of either? Thanks.

Ill have to double check on the install on the Remus, but for the RPI the rear muffler is cut off and the RPI exhaust is a bolt-on using the same hangers. no welding is needed with the RPI.

I have the RPI on my 2008 550i, and it was too loud for me. I would suggest you do a search to get other opinions as I am sure other folks may disagree with me. My experience was also that it droned like crazy in the 1600-2100 rpm range. I called RPI about it and their suggestion was to use Sport mode so the car wouldn't run in that RPM range. That didn't work for me.
I used to have a 95 Firebird a few years back with cam, headers, etc, and I had the exhaust tamed through a Borla muffler. My wife compared the sound of the RPI to the Firebird. While the Firebird sounded great and worked for that car, that is just not the sound I am looking for in a BMW 550i. Your preference may be different.
Going back to the stock exhaust wasn't really an option, so, since I really loved the look of the RPI exhaust, I decided to make some tweaks. This past weekend I installed a Moroso Spiral Flow muffler in place of a section of the RPI pipe prior to the RPI muffler. It took some custom cutting here and there to get everything to line up, but it turned out great! I am planning to take a few pics and will post them maybe this weekend.
So, from behind the car the RPI looks exactly the same, but the Spiral Flow muffler calms the sound down enough to be passable and any drone is 98% gone. It still sounds way better that stock and my wife doesn't hear me driving home from 1/8 mile away from inside the house as she used to.
The flow numbers on the Moroso are great and I haven't noticed any performance change since the install.
Hope this helps!
