Nope, not with just one of them. But, if you do both and put your 545i on weight watchers, then maybe/probably. See the first "Mind Candy" in my sig.

Edit: On re-read, it looks like you don't have the sports package. With 17's, you have a slight gearing advantage. That helps some too. And, you don't have the extra weight of my comfort seats. You still could save weight by changing 17" wheels and tires.

I am right, right?--that non-sports package comes with 17's. Right? Is your's manual? You could easily end up with the fastest 545i on the block.

the exhaust and throttle plate will probably add about 12-15hp. To really get up there, I think you have to do a chip and maybe open up the air intake, as you are talking about adding 35hp. Although the weight savings is a good point, you can change that ratio just depending on how much fuel is in your tank.

Remember, you are trying to compete with an engine that physically can put out more hp/torque (larger displacement). So your mods will let you engine rev faster and I believe your gains will be up at the higher RPM's. Provided the 550 owner has not done any mods, he will have more shear torque out of the hole, which is where a street race can be won or lost.

You are only talking about a difference 0-60 of maybe .2 seconds, which can be made up easily in driving skill.

So, if you want to go around and try racing a 550, I think you have to do the full array of mods, and then hope he has not done the same. Or, go for the super charger and take on an M5.

I don't know of anyone that makes a 4.4 supercharger yet except for Alpina, but there are not retrofit.

I'm not trying to "beat" a 550i, just wanna be on par.

Well, if you can't beat them join 'em!

Best way to keep up with a 550i? Rebadge your car with a "550i"

Ok, seriously, I'm not a big fan of intake systems. I think they're generally more for show and sound than real hp gains. If you want to improve your acceleration time, try getting a lightweight flywheel, your car will feel like it's launching with a s/c under its belly.

I agree about the feel thing. And, the lightweight flywheel should be good on the street or a road race. But, I am not sure about the strip. The conventional wisdom used to be that you'd go slower in a 1/4 with a lightweight flywheel, other things equal. I am not sure what the conventionally wise would say today.
