545I stroker kit with a supercharger

Default 545I stroker kit with a supercharger

Has anyone every used the noelle motors stroker kit before and if so how much horsepower did you gain at the wheel? Also will any stroker kit work with the ESS TVS2 supercharger? Also has anyone gotten over 500hp out of the 4.4L. The reason I ask is I have a plan to have a daily driver sleeper combo that can eat the AMGs in town and that Ferrari I have in my crosshairs.

Well apparently nobody else is going to say it so I will... :-)

Strokers and blowers aren't generally good combinations. It's typically a one or the other type of thing.

Not to mention that the cost of such a setup would be more than the cost of either:

A. Selling your 545, purchasing a 535 and adding a Jb4, DCI, downpipes, IC and E85 (will net around 500 crank and would be exponentially more reliable than what you're proposing) or...

B. Selling your 545, purchasing an M5 and adding nothing. 507 crank horsepower and believe it or not, this would be a more reliable setup as well.

I understand people like to modify specific cars for the sleeper aspect but you can get a 535 that looks identical to a 545 so there goes that argument.

There's just no good reason to modify the V8 engines in the E60 any more. Basic bolt-ons do almost nothing which leaves forced induction and once you consider the cost of that you can be in the seat of a 535 or M5.

And I'm not saying this as some sort of V8 hater. I've had a 2006 M5 a 2006 550 6MT and now a 2010 535. I loved the 550 but accepted it's limitations and once I decided I wanted to go faster I sold it and replaced it with the 535.

Ask someone with a JB4 tuned 535/ 335/ 135 to give you a ride. If speed is what you're after and you don't want the cost of ownership issues of the M5, the TT engine is the way to go.

The problem I have with any M5 is it looks like an M5. The stroker kit from noelle says your compression ratio is still at 10.5:1 (same as stock) witch is ideal for up to 9psi of boast. Most of the engines I have ever supercharges on (all American motors) I usually stroke out first. I don't understand the electronics factor that may effect a mix between the stroker and charger, with the late 80s mustangs I use to work on I would program the computers on a laptop and I can't find any on the fly monitoring and adjusting for any BMW just pre setup tunes witch I'm not a big fan of but I do know they do work for lightly mod cars.

Ok but the 535 doesn't look like an M5 and it's a better baseline to start off of.

I wouldn't be comfortable with a low run stroker kit on this motor regardless of circumstances. I certainly wouldn't want to then run one with forced induction and if your goal truly is just 500hp at the crank then that should be pretty easily attained with a supercharger only. Just make sure you're running the proper supporting modifications and also make sure you're running a large intercooler on there. I've never seen the ESS kit so I don't know if it's intercooled out of the box. You're opening up a whole slew of new problems though. For one, if you run into any pre-detonation you're risking damaging a stroked bottom end worth several thousand dollars that probably won't be salvageable.

If it were me and I was dead set on keeping the 545, then I'd just slap a turbo on it and call it a day. If you have the ability to weld then you're all set. Tuning then becomes your issues as does making sure you have proper sized injectors, a MAF that can handle the additional flow, etc.

Honestly though, 535 is where it's at if you want a non-M5 looking 5 series that moves out. The only worse foundation than the 545 would be the 184hp V6 they had back in the day. I think I'd even prefer the naturally aspirated 3.0 I6 as a baseline than the 4.4 V8 with all of it's issues.

You toss a tune and supporting mods on a 535 and you have a reliable 450 - 500 hp car, you haven't spent 6k+ on a blower kit, you don't need to worry about predetonation destroying you're uber expensive rotating assembly, there's a community of people that have also performed the same mods (try finding more than 1 or 2 people with a supercharged 5 series that doesn't say Dinan on the back), it's cheaper to modify and will get better gas mileage.
