So I'm not much of a racer....unless in a safe area, like a track, it is not a good idea, but this time I just could not help myself. I stayed within the 55 speed limit, but wow. So i drove past a 550i the other day, and he saw that as a challenge for some reason, maybe cuz he saw some mods on my car, which might've provoked him. Anyways, we were both at the light and he was looking at me and smiling (all weird and crap) and almost simultaneously, both of us went off at the green and my acceleration was greater than his! I was about half a car length ahead and i came upon 55 miles an hour to where I came off the pedal. I know the turbos are fast, but taht fast??? I assume in the long run he would've beaten me because he has 60 horsepower/torque more, but I didn't want to get a speeding ticket so I stopped after hitting about 55. But what do you guys think?

a stock 535i will be faster off the line but a stock 550 will eventually pass it (75mph ish). With a piggy back or reflash your vehicle can keep up with m3s and m5s until about 90-100mph. there are not many mods a NA engine can do to gain that much power

Yup.. I am loving my 535i.
I was at La Brea on ramp to 10E. I accelerate to 80mph before I merge onto fwy.
The sound of turbo is just too beautiful. ^^

I thought 550 has faster 0-60 time than 535. If that's true, 550 should be ahead of 535 before reaching 60mph.
I don't think 535 can lead half car ahead of 550 from 0-55. I think the other driver was slow to start or not driving hard enough.

Agreed. The six cylnders are typically quicker off the line initially because they are lighter. The eight cylinders really start to perform at freeways speed. With that said, the other drive could have also been a boob who didn't know how to drive.
