I have been searching all over the internet for answers to this question and seems like no one has the exact answer.
What are some of the issues here??? Figure that the 135i and 335i can run BOV but WHY NOT 535i??? what's going on people??
The only guy I know ran any BOV set up in his 535xi is GOPHASTER(N54tech/my535i (5series.net) (Same guy). He ran it for 30k without a problem...is he the only the one out there that has this set up??? I know there is MORE!!!
Why arent any of you guys interested in this set up?

There have been cases in the past with people blowing engines because of installing blowoff valves on the 335i's. Why do you need one? The BMW turbos are rather small...

member My535i installed a BOV on his 535i

IIRC, he did this so he could run a meth kit...
shoot him a pm if you want tho....he hasn't been on for awhile, but it's worth a try

I'm skeptical because it seems like he is the ONLY one around that ran this set up...am I going crazy?

Not to mention any warranty you have will be VOIDED
Is it worth the risk for some sound?
The turbos on a 335 are smaller than a china mans special purpose. When you try to boost them a little too much they try to dead themselves,
Trae's impellers turned into something resembling a swirled soft serve cone and sent bits of metal into the engine. not shavings, literally chunks. Every tube on the intake was more glittered than Paris Hiltons phone and we had to ward off the maintenance guy from collecting his oil and turning it in as used aluminum. The valves were a horror story wrote by R.L. Stine himself.
26k later he has a fresh engine, turbos, intake piping, intercooler, etc, etc, etc.

BMW has also said from the get-go that the internals of the turbos were not built to withstand surging of any sort (like when you install a BOV) or any additional revolutions. Turning at 150,000 RPM is a tall order for any turbo, but especially a stock, tiny one.

i'm confused. the purpose of a blow off valve is to prevent a surge, not create one.
in any case, if you read the rest of the post, it says that the turbos grenaded due to overboosting, which they will do. i've never heard of a blow off valve alone causing catastrophic failure.

If your bov surges then you need to adjust the weight spring depending on how much boost you are running. I fail to see how a bov damages turbos or engines when it is designed to do the opposite.

BOV's dont hurt your engine, they protect it....
a BOV realeases air, it doesnt create more............................

From my understanding (its been a while as this is from my reading of when I had my 335i back in 07) the BMW uses a recirculating air system and the factory system is more then sufficient for over 400hp. What recirculating system means as that any boost not used is put back in the intake system, when using a blow off valve you lose this air and in turn reduce boost response. On some cars such as the Mistsu Evo the MAF sensor reads this amount of air and expects it in the system and blowing it off can have ill effects on performance, however the BMW I believe is a MAP system and its not as much as a issue.
So basically it comes done to the fact that the BOV is not really needed and actually semi-hurts performance so its kind of a waste of money. Most people put it on for the sound. I for one have owned enough turbocharged cars and find it annoying after a while and any women in your car will be like "whats the matter with you car" "it sounds like its sneezing" lol
