I know there are only 2 options when it comes to lowering an XI. Either go the KW coilover route for over 2k or the H&R spring route
using the stock shocks. My question is; If i went with the H&R's...
a) How rough is the ride?
b) How long will my stock shocks stand up to the punishment they will endure over time?
c) Will I cringe at every dip and bump on the road?
While using a 19" wheel set up.

I don't have either but I plan on getting the coilovers for my xi because they are adjustable wich is a plus if you decide you want to go lower or something. also the stock shocks are built to work in conjuction with the stock springs and it just makes more sense to have shocks that are compatible with aftermarket lowering. IMO

I take it that with the coilovers the answers to those questions would be the exact polar opposites?

No doubt. I have an old thread that talks about the problems I had with my H&R's...would never do it again. The coilovers are pricey, but if you want to do it right, it's a must.
Coilovers- $2000
Peace of mind while driving- Priceless
