In my mind, i'd pick the 535d over the 545i any day of the week. Its faster round a track, even if it is marginally slower in a straight line, and with skaffa now having more hp and torque that the 535d, the 545i won't be able to keep up.

The folks at the meet saw the charts and can verify that. He even said that the guys who did the work were stunned as well. Maybe something went right with his car.
It is as bad as a computer geek wanting to overclock his chip. Sometimes it boils down to the week they were built to explain teh performance from one to the other.

Apart from concerns about the 6 speed box coping, I wonder how hard the turbo is working to get this power.

Rechipping messes with lots of things, including the level of turbo boost. Whereas a tuning box simply squirts in a bit more juice (turbo is unchanged). Might be less increase in power/torque, but it's certainly less invasive, and less risk.

If it were me, I'd want to verify those results on a separate rolling road.

Skaff - are you going to the Enfield meet in Jan? I'd love a chance to compare my tuning box 530D with your remap. Mine is only really coming good now I've done over 7k on the clock and it's an auto box, so you would be way in front in a head to head. But that's not the point - I would love to feel how much that extra oomph gives you on take off!! With the weather we are getting at the moment, the limiting factor is the grip through the rear tyres for me - I can't use anywhere near full warp power without fish-tailing everywhere (and that's with the traction control working!!) Yours must be an awesome drive!

If the 535d is too much for the 6 speed, then surely a 530d chipped will be pushing it to it's limits. I hope it doesn't break.

I hope that too! I have lot of experience from past years about tuned cars and mostly problems has been in clutch and rear axle. If you take often full throttle take off it certainly will wear gearbox. I usually use full power only when passing other cars.

Thats amazing. How come the standard figures are so high. Im finding that hard to believe. What about the reliabilty of the engine? Will it void the bmw warranty?

I am wondering how much extra power i have in my 525d.

There is a dyno of a X5 218bhp on there site and that has no were near the standard power that you had.

Kempower gives one year warranty to motor under 15000km before tuning. I think BMW warranty is over in my case. Reliability we will see.

Kempower have done 260 hp 525 diesel.

How accurate are the rollers at kempower. I can unserdtand the figures being abit high but thats quite incredible.

They (Kempower) had 320i on rolls before mine and that showed about 190hp after modifications (cam, airbox/filter, exhaust) and that should be real value because stock is 170hp. I have also doubt that but I can't find flaw. They calibrated the dyno, I calculated hp from Nm and speed, tire sizes, back axle and gearbox ratios are correct (compared what BMW gives)... When I rallyed I never mind about hp readings, as long car was good to drive and fast. So why I should now?

It seem that I will be in Ireland that time and that means that we will see in Enfield 15th of Jan.

I guess that they did increase boost pressure? Does the car have turbo lag or any black smoke?

Ive seen there dyno of the remapped 525d and there is a flast spot which i dont want. I dont know why its there.

BTW does your 530d have a particle filter?

No increase for the boost, that map was left original. That is dangerous because it increase cylinder pressure lot more than only increasin injection amount.

Lag... Well I don't feel it... BUT now when there is so much more power it feels that under 2000rpm "nothing" happens. Best power is between 2500-4000, but (again but) usefull torq start from 1500. If you don't have hurry 6th is usable from 1500rpm

No black smoke but gray mist can bee seen if there is car behind (when it's dark) with lights on, when pushing hard.

Both 530d and 525d have similar "pothole" 525d have it earlier. This is caused by particle filter in exhaust pipe. I have heard that it resonates and that way cause turbo to stall.
