Hi, new to forum was looking for a bit of advice, I have just bought a tuning box for my 530d e60 model from abriel a company in germany. Any way fitted it this afternoon took it for a drive and noticed the difference straight away. but then when i pulled up at home and put in park the tickover on the car seemed like it was missing a beat and there was a slight vibration through the car, went and put it back into drive then it goes normal how it should do but in neutral or park i get this problem. Ive took the tuning box back off and now it seems ok but did like the extra power and would prefer to have it back on the car. Has anyone else had this problem and can give some advice please. thanks

there is usually some form of adjustment on them. Have you tried a tweak?

Hi Poolie,

Funny because , i just did the same , I bought it recently from Ebay.de ...

And I installed straigt away on my car a 530D E60 automatic transmission as well , It did run well but as you mentionned my idle wasn't stable when i stopped at a traffic light for exemple.

I removed the noise engine cover again in order to check if i connected it well , and i noticed that my injectors were very noisy and still the problem of the Idle not stable.

This tuning box switch "on" when the engine is hot , so i waited it cooled down , restarted the engine , Idle was correct and no noise from the injector , then after few minutes the "box" switched on and again the same problems ...idle not stable and noisy injectors. Some the problems were really from the device.

I wrote them a mail about this and they answered me to sent it back for a test/check ...few days later without any comments they reimbursed me right away !? (refund sent via Paypal).

When i questioned them for the details , they answered that it works perfectly on another customer car in their facility and that there is no reason it doesn't work on my car ...
That the product is good etc etc ... just like if they were saying problem is with my car not with their product.

Well , OK I have my money back , and i don't want to break anything on my car , those devices increase fuel pressure in the common rail , it sounded just like my injectors didn't appreciate the treatment , whatever the reason , think about BMW injector price ... so I didn't insist.

Now thinking about again , as you mention you have automatic tranny as well , maybe there is a reason behind ...!?
I never asked if it works differently with manual our auto transmission.

But no further test for me ...that's it.

BTW this one is not adjustable, no VAR.

Regards

You get what you paid for, and on ebay it isn't different. My car is remapped with a agressive program and last month i add a tuning box. From amazing become unreal. No problems so far and i can adjust the power level on the box.

Hi ,

Thanks for your feedback.

I think Poolie and myself are not claiming that this tuning box doesn't work.
In fact it did quite well when it was on my car , and seems Poolie noticed the effect as well.

The problem we have (had) seems to be related with the automatic tranny , as he mentionned In "P" or in "N" positions.

That's it.

Regards.

Funny - I too went the ebay route and fitted the tuning box last week. All went well until I noticed the idling lumpiness when stationary and today the car felt light it was 'mis firing' when under very light acceleration and backing off. have used a similar more expensive adjustable system on my previous cars (DTUK) and had no issues. I think I am going to take the box off this weekend - don't want to damage the engine or invalidate the warranty.... It did make a HUGE improvement on the torque/ acceleration though! I did think it was cheap (?60).

I think I will be going for a Re-Map instead - anybody know of a good UK mapper - based in North/ Midlands?

Cheers,

Matt
