Someone here must have told their insurance company about DMS re-map - what did they say
I need to know what my insurance company woud do if I DMS'd ny new 530 D
Once I've asked I have no return
Back in January I wrote:

"I just renewed my insurance for ?695 with Zurich Premier. This wasn't the cheapest quote, but seemed the best deal (has very good cover in case of an accident, including replacement car etc). When I enquired about having the engine "chipped" I was told the increase the power would take the annual premium up to ?805. That's an increase of 16% which doens't seem unreasonable. The insurance broker told me that some other insurance companies won't touch "modified" cars at all, so that was another reason to go with this policy, since I am seriously thinking about getting an ECU remap (just can't decide which one to go with :-) "

This resulted in some discussion about the need to inform your insurance company or not - the resulting thread is here

Hope that helps.

P.S. I didn't get the car chipped or re-mapped, mainly because I feel the standard SE suspension is way too soft, so that should be a higher priority. But by the time I've upgraded the springs, had a DMS re-map and upgraded the steering wheel to an M-Sport one, I would have spent well over ?2,000, which is money I'll never get back. So I'd be better off putting the money towards trading in the current car for a later model 530d Sport ... which is now my plan. :-)

Just changed to A-Plan as a broker. Got me a good and mod friendly insurer.
With my Eibachs and the 19" on the policy for 520,- on my 535d Sport.

When I have the remap done, they'll add 10%. That's 52 quid for the year. sounds worth telling them for peace of mind.

A Plan and AF will quote on remaps. They want to know how much extra power you are adding.
10% seems to be a standard increment, and if you want more than 15% the prices rocket and some won't quote - if you understand where I am coming from...

If detecting a remap is not easy, imagine how hard it must be to work out the power increase that one delivers...
