What happens whet you tell your Insurance Company
a) they refuse to quote you
b) they ask for a higher premium

595 + vat... from BMWcar advert
Sorry 700700 I missed your early post of this price.

If the 25% discount is still applicable then the price after discount and VAT added is ?524.34. If they would accept ?500 I might go for it. Very tempting!

I've been thinking about this a bit myself

Do you really need to tell your insurers ?

Nothing has physically changed. Arguably you have just made the engine run more efficiently - is it any different to using premium fuel which is supposed to also have an effect on horsepower?

What about when you change your runflats for performance tyres - that makes the car faster as well?

Legally - you have to tell your insurers anything that they might need to know - so strictly speaking you have to tell them .... but when you think about it - it is a difficult one.

Engine and all of the parts are EXACTLY the same - OK the computer is managing it differently - is this that much different than just driving a car harder?

100% right... Everything is the same, but you know what insurers are like in the uk.. they will try absolutely everything to make you pay for and damage/etc... be it for preserving your no claims discount, or because your car was "altered"...

in BG you dont have to report anything

Your right - but is it altered ?

I mean you could take the car apart and put it back together again without ever seeing anything to suggest anything has been done.

insurers seem to think so... I was sitting next to a guy in subway, the other day , who was on the phone to his insurance company.. He was asking them if he could put a spoiler on his 306 , and they said no... so

From what I've heard and seen quoted from DMS, the remap is undetectable by a regular dealer, and the ECU would have to be shipped to germany for them to actually be able to determine the extent of the modification if at all.

Therefore, how would your insurance comany know if you crashed, and why would they even bother looking that indepth?

Exactly my point - nothing is really changed at all - basically the engine management system is just being tweaked to run more efficiently.

I'd still tell them though - cause it'd worry me always.
