choi000,

Noticed that you're in my neck of the woods.
What city is upsolute located in around here and is your appointment at a technician's house or an actual garage/shop?

Upsolute is located in Chino Hills at the technician's house. They don't have a shop/garage. I guess its to keep their costs low. The technician's name is Lanny.

OK, thanks choi.
I'm looking forward to your update after the appointment you set next week.

If you (by any chance) have access to a dyno, it might be a good idea to do a pre and post results.

OK, so I've talked to the upsolute guy today and the conclusion is that the E60 545i is not compatible with the upsolute software upgrade. THey said that something with the motronics (i think that's what the guy said) system in the E60 will not allow our car to be chipped and that there isn't any software that's been released here in the US which will allow the E60 545i to be chipped. That kinda sucks.

Are they saying that for all 4.4L engines; 6,7 series in addition to 5 series?

Sounds strange when all thes others have it and thay make specific claims on their web site. I am on travel so do not have access to my email messages, but I thought they were one of the vendors that did respond to my emails on thir specs. Will double check when I get back.

I think what Upsolute might have meant is that there is no chip for the 4.5L engine has been developed (or approved?) for the U.S. market?

It's pretty well known that there are chips for the 645Ci (H&S in Europe for example).

I'm sure the Upsolute dealer/engineer meant that they don't have any chips available for the 4.4L. He told me that he was asking around about any 545i's with the upsolute chip tuning and said that there aren't any 545i's in the U.S. that has been chipped. If anyone on this board knows of someone that got their 545i chipped through upsolute, please let me know asap! The upsolute engineer would like to know how they did it so then he could get it installed on my car or any other 545i in the socal region.

I also checked with powerchip but they're still a bit too expensive I think for a chip. I was given a hundred dollars discount for the referral from EBMCS03. Thanks for the referral!

I have some updates to this topic.

1) Regarding Upsolute. I emailed them directly and apparently they can do the programming for the US Spec 545. He says that each car is unique and they can do it on a case by case basis. As far as power increases, he thinks it's more on the lines of 20 hp and 20 lb-ft over stock. For reference, their site says the 545i goes from 333ps to 366ps but that's probably Euro specs. If anyone is still interested in Upsolute, you should consult your local dealer again.

2) I also discovered that Singh Autosport in Fremont, CA (www.singhautosport.com) writes their software program for other tuner shops who in turn, rebrand as their own. For the US Spec 545, their claim is 21 hp and 19 lb-ft over stock as well as the speed limiter being removed. Their cost is $800 with a $50 reprogramming fee if somehow a dealer flash erases the old program. They also have similar claims as all the other chip tuners; undetectable, reversible, smog legal..etc...

I've emailed my Upsolute contact again to confirm and I think I'll go with them since it's hard to beat that price.

Really?! I'm definitely going to talk with my upsolute dealer again. He might be misinformed about chipping for the 4.4L. I would definitley go with upsolute as well if it's possible. Let me know how it goes with your chipping and if you know what the differences are between the various 545i's which allows only certain models the abilitiy to chip their cars, please let me know!

My local Central Florida Upsolute dealer said no problem. Schedule any Friday and plan on being there half a day or so. He said they are TUV certified so their claims on HP and Torque have to be at least the minimum they state to ensure they meet certification standards.
