Hi,
I have got 535d - June 2005. I bought it from my dealer in October 05 as a ex demo car. It is great, but it has got NO Xenon lights. As my previous 540d had Xenons I do miss them. Do any of you know of a reliable 3rd party Xenon HID replacement kits for the E60. There quite a few available but mainly for the US market, but not so many for Europe and UK in particular.

Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Hi - I've looked into this briefly - apparently it's not so simple as swapping out bulbs due to the wildly different spec of the xenon lamp arrangement.

There was a firm in the UK who claimed to offer a kit at ?250 (?350 fitted) for the e60. I cannot find the original post with this thread in - however this looks similar (you need the H7 kit for your 5er)

http://www.carlight.nl//en/details.php?product=3

hope this helps! Maybe someone will find the original post with the url of the website i'm talking about, it was something like www.bmwmsport.co.uk

The peak current drawn from ballast is 20A, and I_average is 3.5A. Make sure E60 halogen headlight wires can handle that much of current. In addition, blinding upcoming traffic is a big issue because the intensity of xenon light is much stronger than halogen.
Anymore chime in would be welcomed.

Try www.hids4u.co.uk as for the wires someone on here stated the wiring is the same for non xenon as it is for xenon
I am considering fitting these myself the above company answer emails with queries and seem to have all potential problems covered

I know I've seen the topic before but how much/is it posible to convert a non-xenon E-60 to factory turn w/the car xenon, plus just reg. xenon....... I also got a used E60 and it killed me that it didn't have Xenon's so I have the stupid Xenon look bulbs (I know, I know but what was I supposed to do???) my last few cars had them (real ones) and it killed me that this one didn't.... they should just come standard

The retrofit kit for Bixenon is about $1200, and $1400 for Active Bixenon. Add another few hours of dealer labor cost.
I'm not sure if dealer want to code it for you if you decide to install by yourself.

The light emitted from filament is not as intense as from xenon arc which create more glare.

The BMW Xenons in Europe comes always with lamp washers and automatic hight control.

These are not nesessary standard on you car?

I am in that belive, that both featrures are obligatory with Xenons.

The Xenons are from Hella, so you should find the retrofits at their website (www.hella.com).
