I currently have
245 x 40 x 19 in front
275 (or 285) x 35 x 19 in rear
If you ask me what I would do to tweak it,
I would do 235/40/19 in the front
&
do 275/35/10 in the rear
-- Ask me why ?
Because even if I were to drop my car by an inch, there would be no chance of rubbing in the front (Me having a Non-M5 fender)
Now if the fender would not have been an issue in the front (Me having an M5 fender in the front)
I would run - 245/40/19 and safely drop my car
As for the rear (If I would not have had the M6 offset) I would have run
285/35/19 with no doubt
Hope that makes a little sense![Thumbsup](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/thumbsup.gif)

and thats why it tucks in at top of fender? Also is this the right pairing for front back to have the same diameter for Xi?
How is the ride? Thanks

So 235/40/19 front is no problem
Correct me if im wrong but 235-245-or255 just makes the tire more square = wider?

To answer your question precisely,
Increasing the first number from 235 --> 245 ---> 255 not only widens the tire but also increases your side wall height, everything else being constant (Increases the thickness of the tire along with making it more square)
The tucking in of any tire/wheel is mostly dependent on your suspension height but yes, increasing the side wall on a tire will lessen the gap between the tire and the fender.
I don't know what you mean when you say " Also is this the right pairing for front back to have the same diameter for Xi?"
The diameter of the wheel or tire is a constant -- The diameter of the tire is dependent on the diameter of your wheel, which I assume in this case is 19 inches.
If your confusing the first number (235 or 245) by referring to it as diameter then, to answer your question -- The fronts can stay at a smaller number than the rears provided you balance the overall diameter of the tire to be as close as possible (I know the last sentence didnt make much sense to you)
The major difference between the i and the xi seems to be the Offset of the wheel itself. Do some research if you dont know what Offset means.
Also, before I close -- Yes running 235/40/19 should not be a problem at all for you ASSUMING that your not running some CRAZY OFFSETS.

I have an '07 550i with sport package and my OEM 166s with 245/40-19 most definitely rub- almost any corner with a bump will rub hard. When wheels are straight it's not a problem but even the slightest turn in with a dip or slight bump hits. I put up with it for 7k miles since they are PS2 tires, but now I'm switching to 245/35-19.
FWIW.
The 245/40 is 3.7% or almost an inch higher than the 245/35. 26.72" vs. 25.75 inches... BIG difference...

I run 285/30-19 on rear with no issues at all. In fact they look great in the wheel well with stock M5 166s.
Again- I'm the factory sport package so it's a bit lower than stock suspension.
I haven't tried 255/35-19 (but would like to) but I'm told with stock fenders (NOT M5) they will rub. The 245/40 is definitely too tight but I haven;t seen the 245/35 on my car. Still, the 255/35 is less than a 1/4" wider on both inside and outside and it would be hard to see why that could be an issue... but again I don't really know.
Put up pictures when you get them.

I did my rears with 275 35 19 and I am very happy about it.
I now want to try putting the 245 40 19 in front with my BBS wheels. Maybe they will not rub?

Okay, so I now have the following setup:
245 x 40 x 19 on BBS CH 8,5 front - no rubbing
275 x 35 x 19 on BBS CH 10 rear - no rubbing.
I have absolutely no rubbing issues with my car being lowered on a sports shocks + weitec -30mm / -30mm springs.
I am also very pleased with the way the car feels and looks, this is the size of tires that should have made it stock.
I recommend!
