I just got a 2008 BMW 535i and Plugged in my iPhone 3GS and its neither charging nor allowing me to control it. Message comes up when I hit USB.
"USB Device connected is not supported"

I am using the USB Cable that came with my iPhone. I do not have the Y cable that BMW provides as previous owner never gave it to me.

Please advise and help if I need to buy any new cables.

Thx

Even if you get the Y/6fl cable, your iPhone 3g will not charge (also includes iPod touches, which I have). SIB here:

but if you use the Y cable, your iPhone might be able to used as an audio device, not sure tho...hopefully other members will chime in...

Wow this comes up like every 2 days now...
There is a Phone section on the forum. it is the one directly above the Mods section from the top down.

I'm willing to bet there is a thread there on the first page that goes over this.

Make sure you get the most current one, as the old ones now you will have issues with, since Apple changed the pin that charges the devices with a firmware upgrade.

I have the business phone preparation along with an adapter for the iphone and that works well, as far as charging as well as connecting to the external antenna. Connection to the car is via bluetooth as far as cellular connection is concerned.

As far as IPOD connection, had to get that seperately installed with a cable and control box, wired to the trunk and connected in the glove compartment, controlling a seperate IPOD.

This for my late 2007 535d

Hey,

If you dont want to control the Iphone, but only need the charging feature.

Try Taping the 2 middles connectors of the usb plug. This way, the iphone cant check for power source info, and will let charge like a regular 5V charger.

Not sure if it will work, but it did work for me once when I had a old wall charger that my iphone was rejecting.
