Default 2007 550i Performance Exhuast Question

I was looking at putting some performance exhaust on my car, I know there are many out there. I seem to remember one vendor makes an axle back exhaust that also has the exhaust valve for quieter operation while just driving slow round town.

Does anyone happen to know which exhaust still uses a valve like the factory muffler?

TIA

For performance and price, nothing beats RPI - it's under $1000. If you really want the valve to control the noise the Meistercraft has an electric valve, but their system costs roughly $2900. RPI does offer silencers to reduce drone and noise.

Thanks for the insight, is the RPI system youre talking about an axle back or a cat back? im looking for more of a performance pairing with an afe stage II CAI, im pretty satisfied with the sound of the 4.8L as it is, not to mention im not looking to piss off my neighbors when i come home late at night or leave early in the morning. add to that im in the car for 100miles a day at 75-85mph, appreciate your thoughts.

Do a search for AFE, you might change your mind about it, especially with the hot summers in Alabama.

RPI is an axle back exhaust. I would recommend not putting on the AFE intake, as from past testing the results are a loss in power due to heat soak.

RPI is probably your best bang for the buck with actual performance gains, very high quality construction, and excellent sound for ~$1K after shipping. I thought mine (below) was a bit loud initially, but it has since mellowed out a lot and sounds fantastic. Looks awesome too!

Others have created an exhaust from Magnaflow components, specifically the 14816:

There's Remus

Other way more expensive options include Eisenmann at about $2K

LOL, I told you it would mellow once it gets broken in. It is louder when first installed, but it gets much better after about 250-500 miles.
