I want to replace my shift knob in my 2005 545i with something that has a newer look. I found this on eBay was wondering what you guys think of these. Price isn't bad and it looks like the newer shift knobs. Also how do I go ahead and remove the stock knob. Just pull up on it?

i have seen the M5 shifter done before, its somewhere on this forum if you search for it. i dont like it though personally, it was far too short on top of the stock shifter piece. i think the first link looks good though. i would consider doing it if it actually lit up like the LCI models do.

has anyone tried this? id hate to waste $80 if it doesnt light up....

I actually have the Illuminated one shown above in the motive mod site. If you are trying to save a buck and simply want to update to a new look the one you have chosen from Ebay isn't that bad. The M5 illuminated shifter including the harness will run you at least 300-400 bucks.

Yea i seen pics of it on a 545 and the knob is tall and doesn't look right. On the m5 it's nice because it's short.

Yea I don't really mind it not lighting up because I still have the little gear selector by the boot. Just want a newer look
For the knob. Mine is out of style I feel.

Just ordered the one off eBay for 89$ shipped. And the seller told me it does light up too. So that's a plus. Alot cheaper then doing the oem retro fit. I'll do a post when I receive it and do the install.

im not about to drop $400 on upgrading the shifter knob....but the standard knob looks like shit, so something has to be done! lol
