If you run on 20's, with low profile Pilot Sports, does the ride comfort suffer? And would you lower the car as well?

Compared to what? Generally, yes. Lower profile, lower ride comfort. And for roads in my country, 20" is not comfort for sure (for E60).

I don't think you will ever get the same ride comfort by increasing the rims size that much

+1, but comfortness depends on personal taste in my opinion. You could compare 2 e60s with 20" rims, one on springs and one on coilovers with low pros.

Be more vague, please.

Sorry. I'm coming off of the stock 18" 545 Sport wheels with RFTs. The rims I am looking at are staggered 20" BBS RS-GTs (20x8.5 and 20x10) with Pilot Sports. Everything on the car is stock.

Lowering would have been via an Eibach Pro kit of HR Sport springs. There wheels are used but in near new condition, rims are perfect still, for $3700. He said I can try then for a few days and bring them back if I am not satisfied. A benefit he is extending from one BMW owner to another.

I went from 18" run flats to 20" non-run flats...I think the ride is much smoother/softer now. Go for it! Probably could be better with the PS2s.
