In case ppl were thinking of putting on M6 wheels, apparently there are 2 different ones. I was considering getting a used set off of a M6 owner when I came across this:
M5 M167
M6 M167
They seem to have different rear offsets. Does it make much of a difference or can we still just use the M6 ones with smaller tires?

The M6 rear wheels has a lot more aggressive offset and you may have rubbing issues. When one of my wheels were getting repaired, we tried to fit a rear M6 wheel with the stock tires on but it stuck out way too much. You're probably safer with the M5 offset and a set of spacers.
I'm not an offset expert, so I'd wait for others to chime in.

M6 167- 17mm
where are the experts?

Experts? My OEM 167's should arrive soon? I thought everybody mentioned 275/30 tires on the rear.

1) @KnIgHtCoM
6 wheels with ET 17 NEVER rubs on your cur if you use the standard 275/30/19 tires on them. In fact, i have gone and used 3mm spacers and made them ET 14, and this has yet to rub. I even managed to have them leglized on my E61, and legalizing them in austria means that
- they don't stick out more than your fender
- with weight in the back of the year, your wheels dont rub inside (for the test, they put in 300kg at the back of my car)..
2) @Heelsonwheels
the 124 have an offset 32, the 167 either 17 or 28: unfortunately you are comparing apples with bananas. the offset on its own is pointless, it only makes sense if you mention the wheel width in the same breath. the 124 are 9J, the 167 9,5j which means:
the 124/et 32: the outside wall is 8,23cm away from the mounting point of the axle
the 167/et 28: the outside wall is 9,25cm away from the mounting point of the axle
the 167/et 17: the outside wall is 10,36 cm away from the mounting point of the axle
From the point of view, mounting the 167/17 would look like if oyu had 20mm spacers on the 124/32 wheels - in other words, the 167/17 stick out by 2cm more than than the standard 124/32 wheels..
hope this was of some help...

We were running the stock tires that came with the M6 (285/35/19) so that's why they rubbed, but thanks for clarifying! I knew an expert would chime in.
