Nice wheels.

Am trying to decide between 172s and (easy clean) 128s. Same colour so useful pics.

Drove the dealers demo with these wheels and I thought that the ride was better than the 18" RFs - which I think you alude to as well. Confirmed the decision to change.

The demo car wheels had been scuffed a couple of inches in from the edge, the 172s do seem to stick out just a smidge so that the face cops it before the rim - and my wife drives my car

Let us know how you get on with cleaning them, that may actually be the clincher for me. Agree that OE is best, and at least BM gives you some choice.

Thanks for the price info too, my dealer says he is doing me a favour at ?2000 without the spare (factory ordered - that sure I was going to dump the RFs!).

No spacers for me. Was considering adding them to my 135s and still have some H&R 20mm spacers that I bought a while ago. But while there is an argument for them with 19" wheels, I am happier not invalidating the warranty by adding them.

I am seriously considering the 166M rims, but am worried about warranty issues. Are you confident you are not invalidating the warranty by using these rims? I like the 172's as well, but I cleaned similar rims on my M3 for several years and am not up to the task. My clear favorite is the 166.

The 172's do stick out form the tyre, so the wife has strict instructions to be very careful when parking!! If you have one look at the alloys on her car you will know how much troble I am in....

?2000 is a lot of money given the price I got + you not even getting the spacesaver! However it sounds like you are factory ordering the car so you should only be paying the upgrade price of ?780.

Cleaning them is not as bad as it looks. In fact its slightly easier than the 135M rims as more of the alloy faces you. A good wheel brush is all you need. The 166M wheels should definately be a lot easier to clean.

I don't like the 128's. I had a tough time deciding between the 172's and the 166's. The 172's are actually dearer which is a bit mystifying

They won't let you have the 172 upgrade on a Tourer so I'm in the boat you were in. An issue of tyre ratings v load capacity apparently.

Warranty is an issue, but using an OE wheel there are not many things that they can claim you have caused.

On the subject of spacers:

I checked with BMW locally & they confirmed that spacers have no effect on the warranty.

Not sure if this is the same worldwide?


AIso, please note that the link below is for pics when I briefly had 15mm spacers on the rear, which I felt were too wide.

l have since installed 10mm spacers which are perfect. You can see these pics in my gallery.

I had a good look round my car and have decided not to go for spacers. Hassle to get them installed plus I don't think the car desperately needs them.

One thing I would definately recommend though is the high gloss shadowline option. It only cost around ?100 more but really makes the car stand out in my opinion. I have seen other silver grey cars with just the normal shadowline and they dont look as nice. The gloss black really does add something extra and I would highly recommend it especially on lighter colour cars.
