Nice! Don't you just love it when something like that happens...right time, right place....
btw, are you getting spacers in the rear? technically speaking, 24 mm spaceres (12 on each side) should make the rear align with the front...

No, when ordering the 172 from the factory, they don't come with the spacers. in my opinion, the front stick out a bit more than the rear. check out bmw#5's car on

he has put on spacers in the rear, 10 mm on each side, so 20 mm in total. i think it looks a more aligned with the spacers, but do you notice the difference compared to yours?
don't get me wrong, ur car looks great without the spacers too...

Edit - yes it looks like his rear wheels have been pushed out a bit more from the body. I think I see what you mean.

The only difference I notice is that his car looks better than mine with the 172's

I know. Black cars always look hot in the pictures with the big wheels. However in real life during the English winters they only look good for about 1 hour after a wash. Then they look like they need a wash...
I used to own a black 3 Series Coupe. It was a bugger to keep clean and the swirl marks were a nightmare. Never again.
When I went to get the 172's installed, I drove a dark blue 530d with the same wheels. It honestly did not look as nice as my Silver Grey did. It must be black to get the full effect.
BMW#5 lives in SA however....good climate over there.

so spacers a "maybe" for you? i am seriously considering it, specially now for the 18" 135 winter set, where the rear seem very very lost looks like i am going for a set of 12 mm for each side, that should compensate the 24 mm that the rear axle anyway lag the front axle.

No spacers for me. Was considering adding them to my 135s and still have some H&R 20mm spacers that I bought a while ago. But while there is an argument for them with 19" wheels, I am happier not invalidating the warranty by adding them.

Thanks IMU - if there is a chance that they invalidate the warranty then I am not fitting them. I suppose the 18's need them more than the 19's so I will live without.
