i am driving the 520i - 2003 production
am on stock 16" alloys with runflats
am starting to look around for alloys
was wondering if the m double spoke alloys would be "too heavy" for my car if i got the 18"
i expect some increase in fuel consumption but was wondering if te 520 can handle the 18" (worried about the potential lack of torque)

Less Tyre to throw around and more light weight wheel, dont think youd have a problem...

If you choose non-RF's you'll will save a lot in weight.
The 18" tires will make some more internal noice on bad roads, they are also harder so the comfort will suffer, they will increae the fuel consumption a bit but they will look extremely hot on your car!

You also may consider 17" wheels with 225/50 tires

Eugene, my friend Sam has got the 166M rims. They're 19 inch rims - no problem. He's even lowered his springs so that the gap looks smaller. If you wish to take a look, let me know. I can arrange for you.

Hi Ed,
would the 19" be a much much harder ride?

My 545 has got sports suspension and I am using the 19inch 166M rims also. I do not find the ride hard or harsh.
However, in saying so, it is always up to the individual. What is good for me may not be for you. Best is to try someone's ride and again, Sam comes into my mind. He's a good guy. If you wish to, I will try and make the necessary arrangement with him. The only problem is that he shares his ride with his wife and he gets to drive (definitely) on Tuesdays and Saturdays. This week is out because we're going fishing.
Let me know via PM and I'll see when I can fix up a mini GTG.
