spacers only in the rear= cosmetic purposes to make the rear wheels flush with the fender.
you can get spacers on ebay. usually for 166/167, you can go 10mm or 12mm spacers with tire sizes 245/35/19 in the front and 275/30/19 in the rear

The dealer said they don't fit and made it sound like using spacers isn't advisable, might affect the warrantee?
no. the dealer lies about spacers. its your decision to put spacers. I put them on and never received a complaint from my dealer. I've learned a bunch of things on this forum that the dealer would never know about. The only thing BMW can void your warranty on is if you mess with the electrical stuff of the car, the engine, or the shocks if you plan to lower your car.

Agreed, I get more information from these forums than the dealer's. Not gonna lower the car. I did a DIY with XM radio back when I got my M3 for $160, the dealer wanted $800. Even when I bought snows, dealer wanted $45/tire to mount vs $8 at Costco...BTW,What's the story with the monitor's for the rims, do I need them, do you use them? The dealer in Newport quoted that in the price for the rims.
you need them for your car b/c the 06 models and on require the monitors

Keep in mind that you don't 'need' spacers in the rear. As mentioned above....it's purely cosmetic. I've even heard some people complain about vibration with spacers, but obviously not in all cases.
You can't really tell much from the crappy angle of this picture, but I don't have spacers on my white e60 (or my e85 next to it for that matter) and I think it looks just fine.
My next mod is to put the 167 wheels on my e85....
