10W-60 Oil

There is a BMW SIB that says that you should be using either the BMW brand oil 5-W30, or a special type of over the counter oil made by Castroil (sp?) which is 10W-60 (it is synthetic).

You should not use regular petroleum based 10W-60.

BMW parts guy told me thtat BMW 10W-60 is for M serious only, but I wonder!!!

I think the 10w-60 engine oil is too thick for the non-M engine, as it doesn't operate at high rpm and relatively lower engine temperature. But I think using it will not harm the engine anyway probably just a slight decline in fuel economy.

I just took my 525i for a oil change which I used Lubrolene REVO G-SPEC 5W-40 a japanese make and itis much smoother and quiter too
