So,

I just bought an almost new complete set of 08 M5 brakes. Will it be a direct replacement for me? (I'm assuming not) If not, what am I looking at to get them installed (or rather what is my shop looking at) Is it crazy hard or not so bad? Any documentation anywhere that I can send to my shop? They have never done this kind of an upgrade. They're sure they can figure it out whatever the issues may be, just thought I'd get a head start for them.

Thanks in advance....

I've seen guys do m5 brake conversions on their 545s, i dont see why the 535 would be any different.

I know from shopping for brakes on my car that they seem to have two categories for the 6 vs. the 8 - and then the M5 always in a class of its own. Brake conversions are easy as long as you really do have the whole kit. Assuming the spindle is the same on all these cars, your calipers and rotors should bolt up - but if the rotor is different (thicker) I think the offset might change, no?

It is worth a shot, but don't spend a fortune on the conversion if it is giving you trouble, your stock brakes are more than adequate.

Only thing you wont be able to do is.. use 17 or 18 inch wheels anymore.. (I think that's a plus because you'll only have sweet 19's or 20's)

But I believe its a direct swap. Good luck man. Can't wait to see some pics.

Tom - You should have just gotten yourself an M5 with everything you are doing to your car.

I know, I know...next car

When I originally bought this car, I had no interest in an M5 or modding it whatsoever. Then DINAN needed a 535i test car and it got me started. Then, I found this site and it was over

You'd be surprised though at how little I've actually spent all things considered.

Someday something will come out that'll give me another 100hp and I'll give you a run for your money

Besides, if I had an M5 at this point, I'd still find just as much to spend money on...

Its a labor of love and I absolutely thrill at the sight of my car after putting so many mods of my own into it.

the 535 has the same brakes as the 545/550, so yes, the M5 units will bolt right up. other than the calipers/rotors/pads, you'll need the rotor set screw from the M5, and on the rears, you can either live without a set screw or go nuts and make the hole for the screw.

if you still have the style 124s, test fit them...I don't think the m5 brakes will fit under them.
