Heyo, looking for some help with my 2008 E61 535xi Touring.
Just inherited this car from my parents and am looking to make some modifications to improve performance as well as cosmetics. Off the top of my head, I was thinking of modifying the exhaust and intake, and upgrade the old CCC monitor screen to a newer Apple Carplay/Android Auto system.
If you have any expertise or suggestions in these areas please let me know. Also, if you have any lesser know information about this car or what other systems could use work or modifications, please reach out to me.
Some currents issues:
- tailgate hatch motors no longer function but still activates
- remote unlock sometimes doesn't work, but remote locking always ok
- weird clicking noise coming from the engine bay when idles at around 500 rpms
- water occasionally leaks towards the trunk and computer systems
Looking forward to learning more about this car and how to take care of it. Thanks.
You'll find answers to a number of these topics by searching, you can also look on Bimmerfest where I often find more info.
Regarding the CCC, you can retrofit CIC but you'll only get a higher resolution display, more modern graphics, and a hard-drive based navigation and audio system. I did it only because I found a kit locally for a steal. There are lots of MMI units out there that do CarPlay. I currently have one and am pretty happy with it. I've been reading about a newer Mr12Volt system that uses the fiber optic system to input audio rather than the aux-input jack in the center console. I'm keeping my eye on it, sounds like it currently has some issues with reduced bass, but overall much better sound quality.
The rear hatch wiring is a constant problem on these cars. I recently acquired the Sencom E61 repair kit but haven't decided when to install it yet.
The water in the rear is typically because of plugged drains that have a valve on the end that clogs.
Welcome here, I look forward to hearing more about the things you do to your car.
