I was quoted over $900 for parts and labor to do a full service on my transmission. Flush, fill, new filter and whatever else the service takes. Its an independent shop and they have done great work for me and their prices are really fair. Does this sound right? Anyone else ever had a full service? He said he recommends it at about the 50-60K mark.

I was charged $450 at Motor Werks which is a certified BMW dealership.... Sounds like a big rip off and even 450 is high but 900? Jesus no. Just remember your BMW service advisor at a dealership is going to give you flack and say "oh, its not recommended because its lifetime fluid" etc. Just tell him to shut the f up and change the fluid.

Not sure flushing the trans is recommended though. I was quoted 650 at a local shop that specializes in BMW for pan, filter and fluid. Gonna tackle it myself when I have time. Already bought the trans kit with fluid for around 220.

Where did you get everything for $220? What type of fluid?

My is a 550 but pre-lci, 2006. I went to realoem.com to check what model of transmission I have, either through last 7 digit VIN number or year of production and I get the automatic gearbox number. Mine was AUTOMATIC GEARBOX GA6HP26Z from realoem.com.
Then I just look up which kit is compatible for my gearbox. I think there was long thread in the DIY section on what type of fluid that can be used in our transmission but this was one of the compatible type and since it's not that expensive, I'm planning to drain it again down the line.

Use redline ATF D4 so much cheaper and better wear protector. A Bmw pan is 230 fluid is 70-100 labor was like 200 ish .
mine out the door was like 540 parts labor fluid. My pan was leaking so I had to replace it. If yours isnt then dont touch it do a drain and fill which will save you even more money!
