Congrats man!!! So what are the specs? If it's still under warranty, have the dealer look into that red cog right away. I had that light come up on my car a few times during cold starts in the morning but it only flashed for a sec or so and went away. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong but after the 3rd or 4th time it happened, they replaced my clutch.

My Ride: 09 M5 (E60) Interlagos blue, Silverstone interior, with cold weather package. Adaptive Xenon headlamps and adaptive brake lights, hud, comfort access. Comfort seats, basically fully loaded.

Drive it w/o worries or it'll just be a pain in ass... Don't give a damn, that red cog can come on for many reasons such as software update or the clutch position sensor...
Have fun man... nothing to worry about as long as car is shifting smooth. They're all jerky somewhat so dun stress.
Bring it around some time, i'll run a test on your car at my shop.
