I can't say e60 is the "Best" sports sedan. But with no doubt, it's on top 3 sports sedan.
In your opinion, what would be the best production sports sedan with regards to sporty, cost, and probably reliability?

You know, I answered YES and now that I think about it, I'm not so sure. The fact is the M45 is 90-95% of what the 550 is and yet it costs $58K loaded vs. $70K for a similar 550. So for the money, the M45 "might" be a better deal.

For me however the 550 is the best in class in terms of driving dynamics and this was first on my list - even if it costs me an additional $12K! BTW, I also prefer the looks of the 550 over the M45.

rattles and creaks we all have but I still think e60 is still the best sedan in the World!
Agree Ats

and remember that:

E60 is the higher designed ever luxury sport sedan and its design will be a landmark for the decade's sport sedans. Talking about look, safety, comfort, stability and electronic systems. It's a 5.00 m. long car and the driving feeling is like to play with a Go-cart.

Excellent poll. My E60, which I love with a passion, manages to be unquestionably the best car I've ever owned - whilst at the same time being perhaps the most frustrating with just too many annoying minor quality issues. That said, I like the car so much the minor issues can usually remain as just that. Compared to its most obvious peers, I really don't think there is anything "better" on the market. Some might arguably (or probably) be better value (the Japanese in particular), but as an overall package the E60 is the one to beat and I voted for yes. I should add, though, that some of the competition is getting close.
While being BMW enthusiasts, we are pretty level headed and make good attempts to be unbias to the cars we own. To answer my own questions, I think that the 5 series is the best production sports sedan at this point in time. I've test driven and have good friends with Lexus GS, E class, Infiniti M and G, and a few Audi A4 and A6. While these cars have their shining spots, the BMW stock steering, shocks, suspension, styling, engine to transmission mating, gives the driver a very pleasurable driving experience . . . and I didn't believe BMW commercials at first.

Having said the above, there is a price to pay, which in the 5 series is the price. Relatively speaking, you can buy 90% of an old house for the price of a new 545/550 in Houston, Texas suburbs. The other price to pay is relatively reliability compared to other manufacturers. I could go on the negative side, but the pieces just don't add up to the sum of pleasure owning and driving a 5 series.

Would I pay another 5 series down the road? I would look at the competition, but the 5 series will no doubt be the pinnacle (standard) that all others must meet or supercede to win my wallet. Unless repair cost skyrockets after warranty, I vote yes.

I agree.

The "for its money" part is the quality that I have to think about. I do think that the Infiniti is probably a better deal, but the BMW is the better product, irrespective of price.

I vote 'Yes with reservations'.

Because the question is asking for most valuable sports sedan, so I have to consider the HP+Handling / Price. E60 is the most expensive car in its class, it?s hard to say e60 is the most valuable, although it has good power and great handling in its class.

My vote was Yes, with reservations

Nothing is more frustrating to me than rattles. Over Los Angeles bad pavement the the runflats and sport package are harsh. Tolerable though if it was not for the numerous rattles from door seals, parcel shelf, door locks.....the list is endless. Will my next car be another 5. Ofcourse. I hope they fix these issues.

You can fix 99% of those problems by putting non run flats on the car, unless it is too late and the run flats have shaken the car to pieces already!!

It's strange that you find the run flats so bad - We've had no problems with them apart from a puncture - the ride is firm, not hard, the car doesn't rattle or shake, and soaks up bumps in the road as well as any other non run flat tyre. Perhaps the brand of tyre that your runflats had caused the problems, rather than the technology in runflats!

BTW, as we live in a similar area, it's not likely to be a difference in road surface quality - the roads round in west Norfolk are a combo of pretty rough and bumpy (A47), to brand new and smooth tarmac (A10)...
