I have almost the same car as yours except for the folding mirrors, and mine is 07. I've never had any major problems. I had to change both front bearings but that was it. Love the car fast and smooth.
On a recent trip through WV I could not keep up with a Benz either an E350 or 550, it was going so fast. I was keeping up speed wise (about 125-130 constant) but it did not feel steady on the road, it could not handle minor turns at that speed so I quit for safety reasons.
I was really impressed with the Benz though.

May be the Benz driver was feeling the same way. There might be a Benz forum somewhere with a post about an amazing 550i giving chase ;-)
Gear shifting is not as smooth as I expected. I will try the transmission reset tonight to see if it improves shifting. After having to change the transmission on my 530, I am always wary about it.

It cannot be Benz e350 unless something is wrong with your car.E350 cannot even keep up with Camry V6 or Accord V6. e550 should be a bit faster 0-60 but only in straight line. As soon as you hit a turn e550 is a boat (not a sports car) and it feels like it. Something is telling me either you have a problem with your car or that benz was seriously modded.
As far I know there is absolutly nothing wrong with my car I could have gone faster, just wasn't safe on those roads. Who knows, I don't think the car was designed to be driven at such speeds on a regular road. The Benz didn't slow down so I guess he was doing better on the corners than I was.
I know BMW owners are supposed to hate Benz but come on comparing a Benz to a Camry. My brother has a E350 and the car will take a Camry any day.
Sorry OP, hopefully we get back to your question

BMW owners should not hate Benz. You never know as your next car could be Benz. I like Benz, but in my opinion they are for older folks where comfort is #1 priority. Tell your brother to do a reasearch before he tries to take Camry 2012 V6. Do not just assume if it is made in Germany and cost 2x it is faster. Those new japanese sedans are fast but only in the straight line.
