My Ride: 2004 545i titanium grey 6 speed manual with light grey interior. Nav, L7, cold weather, sport, sat. Modifications: suede headliner, pianno black interior trim, Ipod dock, Mtech front bumper, Angel Eyes, and flat black kidney grills.
My factory amp overheated the other day which caused some strange behavior. It has been about 100+ degrees lately. The cooling fans on my amp were working but the amp took way too long to cool off. When I looked closely at it I noticed the factory had mounted my amp upside down. The power plug and cooling fans were at the top. I tested it out and the fans actually blow air toward the body of the amp. There was plenty of slack on the cables so I mounted the amp with the fans at the bottom. Now the fans now pull cool air from the bottom and send it up thru the amp and hot air comes out the top. My amp fans are on less often now (they are temperature controlled) and the amp cools off much faster.
How many of you have your amp mounted upside down? ( you can use some sort of smoke to test the airflow of the fans to be sure )

I think you must have had a Friday install of that amp in the factory because your changed position is how it was supposed to be in the first place.

Yeah I know, I have seen it both ways in other cars so I know I am not the only one.

This was taken during my shocks install.
Looks like I need to fix this. Thanks for pointing this out .

Before
Disconnect Neg. Battery cable.
Unplug Optic connector (the smaller). I couldn't unplug the big one .
Slide out 2 retaining plates towards side to release ampifier module.
Unbolt 8mm bolt and reroute harness and flip amp upside down.
Also reroute optic harness and plug back into amp.
Put 8mm bolt back.
Reconnect Battery Neg. cable.
Cool light effect.

You have a lot of stuff there beside the Amp. What are they?
Thanks for the amp cooling tip BTW, I just love doing projects to keep myself busy .

Here are diagrams of my old and new setup. The sound processor in the photo is the Alpine PXE650 and the line conditioner is a Tru-Technology SSLD6.
