down here in South Florida we do the same, during summer time when we get our "RAIN" hour.
nearly everyday in the summer rain season, it will start to rain at about ...? 2-3PM for an hour or 2, sometimes a little longer - but there will be so much rain at once, that you can barely see the car in front of you, and there will be 2-3" of water on the road, puddles a foot deep, and the canalisation over flowing. drainage ditches 3 feet deep will overflow onto the road, and be to normal levels 2 hours later.? rain drops that feel like HAIL, so large.

Tropical storm! Well in cases like these everyone should well know it is dangerous; there is no need to warn others with hazards lights, assuming they can see in the first place. I would rather use rear fog if I really have to. Oopss... But it's ok IMO even though it's not fog cause visibility can be really bad, down to couple of car lengths.

I grew up in western Maryland/West Virginia and it was quit common to see flashers being used in the heavy fog. It really stinks rolling up on somebody and not seeing them till your 5 feet away even if you are only going 10 mph. Flashers helped.

That's what the Europe spec E60's ahve the rear fog for. I think it is much better than the hazzards.

Do you guys ever tailgate someone going slow, then flash them with your highbeams....not that I do that.

I'll try this hazard safety tip in the future though.

Used to do it in the States but it never worked some people think it is their right to drive in the left lane. It's illegal in Germany and the cops will give you a ticket if they see you doing it.

I have been told it is actually unlawful in some states to use your hazard flashers for any thing other than accidents or, catch this, funerals. Well I have to disagree with those states. Actually flashing gives you a better chance of not ending up in the lead car of that funeral procession, but I guess the law is the law.

some people wave to say thank you if he/she cuts in front of other car but drivers in japan use hazard (blink 3 times) instead. they even turn off the headlights in intersections/two way traffic if there is a car on the opposite lane just because they don't want to blind the other people. i think it's a very good manner . they'll do the same if there is a car backing out of the stall and they are waiting for that space.

I wonder why BMW changed the long held tradition of mounting the flasher button on the center console within easy reach and put it up on the dash for the E60 ala Mercedes Benz?

How long was the "long held traditon" held? My E30 has the hazard switch up on the dash...
