Another safety tip: when stopping on the highway say for road construction, leave plenty of space between you and the next car foreward. Also, turn the wheel so you'd steer off into the ditch. I've known several people who died being rear-ended by semi-trucks and being smashed into many cars foreward in line.

The hazard lights were meant to broken down vehicles. So it might confuse others sometimes as to whether the car is moving.

I'd have no problem with some "confused" person thinking I was stopped. That's the point, to slow them down and take notice that something is happening in front of them...

Interesting, the automobile association here discourages drivers from doing so. The hazard lights were meant to broken down vehicles. So it might confuse others sometimes as to whether the car is moving.

However, over here too many drivers put on the hazard lights while driving in the rain. I mean everyone should have already known it is pouring, right?

OH REALLY??? it was raining today and some guy on the freeway was driving with his hazzards on... wasnt pouring... I wondered why he had his hazzards on... Must have came from Singapore

That's fine if everyone thinks you are stopped. When you are stopped and if drivers behind think you are moving, then good luck. Brake lights are supposed to be that signal but everyone gets so used to it and its effect is no longer as obvious. Hazard lights seem to be something diff, so others may take notice. Once everybody gets used to it, complacency will step in again. :'(

I think that's the thinking behind BFD. In my opinion, unless the hazard switch gets wired to the brake pedal, it'll take much longer for complacency to set in. If a human has to turn them on, people will realize the difference and hopefully take extra notice -- that is if they're finished eating their lunch, putting on their makeup, reading the afternoon newspaper, talking on the phone, and fiddling with the CD changer...

. . . or fiddling with iDrive type stuff. I use my flashers anytime I think I might become an obstruction to someone's path, but have had better luck keeping my black raincoat in the closet lately.

Maybe they can wire the flashers to the iDrive knob so they flash every time someone goes to use it...
