FYI, the car i test drove was a 08' 535i when I was in the market. As soon as me and my wife sat in the car we were sold... Nevermind the cost to the city to repave the abused roads... It is a great car. Very.... oh, what's the word... Alive!

All I am going to say is do your research....

535i Tuned/Mod'd can be a monster for less than the $ difference for those extra cubic inches.....

Both are great cars in their own right...

I would have to say if I were in the market I would probably go with the 535 right now, from the perspective of a person who likes to mod the twin turbo vehicles are very easily modded and have lots of potential. The sales guy at the dealer was telling me that those 535 engines without the turbo make 270 horse so that turbo from factory is just barely working a simple tune would have that car flying. Not to mention I think you get a little better gas mileage with the 535 compared to the 550.

Its only my first one but i've got to say,
I love everything about a big 8 cylinder engine.

Don't forget that when you have the AC on in the summer
the 6 cylinder loses more power than the 8.

Go the whole hog - get an M5 for a daily driver, an M5 Touring for hauling stuff, and an M6 convertible for weekend blasts.

Well, leaving out the M5 (that's no comparison). I would go straight for the 535i.
And when i would receive, the first trip would be to a chiptuner.
The power can be easily and reliably upped to 370bhp. (You could take it a lot further, but you'll lose the warranty)
In that case, it'll beat the 550i on every run, simply because it's a lot lighter.

Also, i love the turbo kick, but that's just personal.

They've compared a 335i (chiptuned) to an M3 and the 335i WON!
That's the same engine.
(But the M5 has 100bhp more, so it wouldn't win to that)

Then why does your signature say you have a 528?

It goes without saying, that as soon as I hit the jackpot, I'm getting the M5!
But for now, I think I'm leaning toward the 535. I'd say, aside from the fact that there are no decent front lips for the LCI (I'll prolly have to get the M-Tech) and the fact that I actually like the pre-LCI door interiors better, there's not a whole lot against it at all. And the fact that the 550 is heavier is a huge deterrent to me - I didn't even think about that before. But I'm not knocking the 550, I'm just saying that I'd be happy with a 535

Now, who wants my '06 530Xi with a 6 Speed?
