Hyundai Genesis!!
I saw one on the road yesterday... Hyundai must be doing something right beacuse I actually pulled up next to it on the freeway to have a look!

Not a bad looking car... but its hard to get past the Hyundai logo.

Anyone else see whats wrong with coming onto a BMW forum, asking whether to choose between an Audi and a BMW?

Of course he'll get an unbiased opinion here.

Funny you asked. My Brother just asked me yesterday how I liked my 2002 Audi A4. He was thinking about picking one up for his wife. My Mother also owns an Audi A6. So, our family has had both Audi & BMWs.

Here was my response to him; when I test drove the Audi A4 after driving a Pontiac Grand Prix, it was like Whoa, gotta have this car. Mind you the Grand Prix was a company car, and I had a BMW 325is previously.

When my lease was up on the A4 I test drove a BMW 330. There was just no comparison. It was BMW for me all the way.

My Mother had two 5-series before buying her 2002 Audi A6. She bought it simply because she lives on a very steep hill, and could never get her BMW up the driveway. I don't believe the XI's were out at that time. The A6 is just awesome driving up the hills. But, she has had a lot of repairs on this car. When you ask her how she feels about the car, she says great in the winter, but it's not a BMW!

I just purchased a 550i in December, and would encourage you to take a look at the new 550i which has the aero kit. The Comfort Seats are awesome! Just buy snow tires in the winter, which is what I plan to do next year. Of course, you realize you are asking this question on a BMW forum. So, what kind of response would you expect? I think mine are real life examples.

Any thought of getting a Porsche Panamera ? If you do, you can tell us all about it

In particular, the All-wheel drive Panamera Turbo features a 4.8-liter biturbo V8 with 500 bhp that results in a 0-100 km/h time of just 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 303 km/h (188 mph).

I am considering a BMW 5 series for my next car. I currently lease a 2007 Audi A8 with sport package. Will I be disappointed with a BMW 5 Series 535xi or 550i with the sport package? How is the 550i in the winter with snow tires?
you cant compare the 2 coz they are not in the same class.
But the BMW will drive much better than the Audi

I've been an Audi owner for the last 13 years and have just made the switch to BMW and could not be more excited! My car is just off the boat and not yet delivered.

I've been driving a A6 4.2 a sport package for the last 5.5 years. The Audi's are simply amazing in the snow provided that you have the right tires. If you need winter traction, as I do, you would be much happier in a 535xi than a 550i. Around these parts driving a RWD in the winter can really be a problem . I've driven my wife's E46 330ci convert in a snow storm with snow tires and it was a dangerous mess. The Xi drive with a 60/46 split does give that RWD bias that makes driving more fun and still has that front wheel pull which is awesome on turns.

My past three Audi's had plenty of power, but none of them were ever really much fun to drive, even with suspension mods, larger wheels and sticky tires. I found myself bored while driving without an real connection to the road. That said, I have not driven a new A6, as I cannot stand the looks. The new supercharged 3.0L V6 is supposed to be an amazing engine.

The E60 is a smaller car than the A8, but is you are looking to size down, it woud be an excellent choice. I will say that the one thing that I will likely miss most about by A6, is its cavernous trunk.

GL!

PLEASE STICK WITH AUDI!

The last thing you want is to have to come up with places to go just to enjoy your car. You don't want to contend with the jealous on-lookers who want a BMW. You don't want to have people bothering you all day saying "Man thats nice car". You don't want your wife thinking you love the E60 more than her....

I think the choice is clear.

Welcome to the forum and please come on over... 550i all the way!

THIS MAN WINS! hahahahaa

I'm also cross-shopping BMW and Audi for my next car, and like you, I'm coming from an existing Audi and looking at cars that cross the lines between series/classes. I currently have an '04 S4 6MT that I very much enjoy, and I'm considering the '10 B8 S4 with the supercharged V6 vs. the 550i 6MT and 535i 6MT Sport.

I personally prefer the cosmetics--inside and out--of the Audi models, and while BMW builds a more balanced car for sport driving, there's no denying that my current S4 is a blast to drive, and everything I've read about the new one leads me to believe it'll be even better (faster, better handling, etc.). I like the additional room provided by the 5-series, and of course there are two things about the 5-er that can't be ignored: 1) inclusive maintenance for the lifetime of the warranty; 2) the opportunity to find one ever-so-slightly used and avoid the first year's depreciation (and gas guzzler tax on the 550i). I did that with my current S4 and it saved me $10K for virtually an identical car to the one I was planning to order.

As for your question, if you're not explicitly taking advantage of the full room of your A8, I agree that a 535xi would be great option for you. You wouldn't lose AWD, you'd only lose out on a small amount of interior volume, and you'd get a more engaging car to drive. You might also consider the new A6 that was just released (you might have seen the Superbowl commercial) that comes with the same supercharged V6 in the new S4. It's more of a head-to-head comparison with the 535xi if you want to stay with Audi.

Good luck!
