Yesterday, I pulled up at the lights with an M3 in the right hand lane. He darted across into the left lane (my lane). I then moved across to be along side him at the lights - with nothing in front of us.

As the lights were red, I sat about 3metres back - and I could see him straining in his mirror and looking out of the corner of his eye - but he didn't want to be seen turning around!

So - the lights went to green and oddly enough we both pulled away slowly. Then we both hit the gas and I dropped her into DS mode. The two lanes go into one very quickly (200m or so) and he was forced to tuck in behind me!

I glanced in the mirror to see him mumbling something and I hope he can lipread - as I mouthed the words slowly and deliberately....

"YES - IT'S A DIESEL!!"

Days like these remind why I left the d badge on!

Anyone else had fun annoying M3 drivers!?!!?!??

I am just curious how much MPG do you get in the city? On the road?

Thanks in advance.

Eddie Presley

PS, I like your 535d sport, especially in this day of rising gas prices $$$$$

Presley.

I normally get about 34mpg per tank of fuel. However, if I am feeling frugel (it does happen - esp when early for work!) I sit on the motorway at 60mph for 30 miles or so. I can get 43mpg+ for the round trip.

Around town - down to 28 mpg or so.

Cheers.

(P.S. I know that the M3 should win on paper - and he was a little surprised/slow to react but he was really trying hard and we were neck to neck for a bit.....)

I had the same experience some time ago but I was driving my 2003 M3 Conv. and my girlfriend was behind me in the 535d, she drives just like me (fast) so I was teasing her and tried a few times to pull away from her.
I was surprised how hard it was to get her off my tail, eventually I pulled away a bit but the difference was very minimal.
The M3 is very pure and still my favourite car but the 535d keeps surprising me day after day....

Do me a HUGE favor. No more asking diesel owners about their gas mileage. It's really deprressing the hell out of me. I get between 12 & 15 MPG in my 550i. If they start exporting them to the US, you are free to ask all you'd like because I will be first on line.

the us's gas has toooo much sulfur content ( i mean diesel)

they have to do some major modifications if they want to import them which will = a loss of funds.
