That was my fuel consumption for a cross-country trip through Germany. The roads were really quiet so I never had to break/speed back up, so it was a constant 50mph/60mph/70mph (at different points). My normal everyday average is only 13.1L/100km = 21.5mpg (UK) = 17.95mpg (US), but that's with my lead foot.

Wow. I have never gotten mpg that high in my 550. I've ranged from a low of about 11 mpg (at 5Series.net meets) to the low twenties on pure highway drives. My lifetime mpg is 16.8 right now and hovers between 16.2-16.9.

That is my best-case numbers though. I reset the mpg on the computer whilst already at 50mph and for the next (measured) 40 miles or so it was flat almost all the way and I never dropped below 50 or above 70. I was trying hard to get the best numbers I could, just to find out what it would be

34 mpg even for 40 highway miles is remarkable in a V8. But even your 28 mpg number is amazing. You must have been touching the gas pedal as if there was an egg between your foot and the pedal.

I never get below 25MPG on the HWY going about 70-75MPH. My highest has been like 29.8 if my memory serves me right. Usually get about 26-27.5MPG.

I did a bit of highway driving myself recently with my 545i, cruise control activated, I reset the computer at 100 kph (62 mph), non stop driving with mostly 100 kph (62 mph) with 80kph breaks which was the speed limit, and included a combination of gradients, started at about 20 metres above seal level but overall ended up 90m above sea level. Below is the data I gathered from my computer, 7.1 l/100km, 32.6 mpg (US), 39.2 mpg (UK).

It's amazing what a light foot on the gas pedal can do.

My average is 22-24 daily. On constant long trips the best i think i have seen is around 27 in my 545i 6 speed manual. The extreme cold weather we have been having is eating a mpg or 2 these past few weeks though.

We've gotten 24 mpg from New York to Florida. We were hitting 60-80 mph and averaged 65 mph.
