I've heard members call an E61 with MT a unicorn because they are so elusive. If you do the mod, it will increase the value and desirability of the car.

The shop I use does the SMG to manual swap for E60 M5's all the time. Can't imagine it being more difficult if not easier to do that to our non-M auto's.

The SMG to manual is easier because there isn't a torque converter to remove.

i dont have a dislike for manual cars. not at all. i love manuals but i wanted a 5 series only with the sport auto option.
i am just saying the manual transmissions are not that popular on a luxury sedan and sit on the lot for quite a while before selling. we are the minority who like manual transmissions,
and my auto transmission is broken at the moment.
i bought another trans and it should be here tomorrow.
and i think i saw you on n54tech and i will be honest, every time i see a 535i with 6 speed manual, even in a person's signature on a forum, i always think how awesome it would be to have one.

When buying, I was able to negotiate the price DOWN for the simple reason that there was less demand, and far fewer interested buyers.
That can be a good strategy when trying to buy a MT car---- especially a large(ish) sedan.

timmer, you probably don't have much to compare it to, but would you say that it's been more costly to maintain a 545 then say a 530 or 535 would be?

My Ride: 2007 550i sport pkg 6MT
I have a manual 550i and love it. But there are few lovers of MT's in large sedans these days. MT in this class decreases value to a car lot though. They know they will likely have it for a longer before it sells and they will have dozens of lookers who walk the moment they see the clutch pedal. When I bought mine It was $4K below the average price I was seeing for similarly equipped and miled 550's. I say it is those people's loss. I will also say that I have an auto trans car I drive in traffic to work in stop n go traffic when it would pain me to know how I was needlessly wearing out the dual mass flywheel, clutch disc, release bearings, and synchros.
