I agree with the guys who said that when you buy a car at this price, you shouldn't look at the pump prices! Anyway, put the shift in sport mode, one press on the loud pedal and my blues go away!!

If you're that worried about the pump prices, get a Prius!

Its definitely an issue........................So I am getting rid of my Lexus GX 470, and getting a 5 series wagon. Probably an E39 used. I am so upside down on the damn Lexus.

It would help to if "people" in China understood the global warming and polluting effects of the coal based powerplants that 80+% of the country uses to generate electricity for a growing industrialized economy. Aside from the obvious global warming problems this raises, the sulfur oxides emitted from these power plants creates sulfuric acid rain around the world, not just in China. Thank heaven that most Chinese people cannot afford automobiles or China would become not only the largest worldwide polluter in electricity generation, but also one of the largest polluters from automobile internal combustion engines.

That being said, the original inquiry concerned remorse about the engine displacement purchased. The cost of ownership for a larger displacement engine includes not only gasoline, but also liability insurance (which can vary greatly from state to state within the US). The variations in the cost of liability insurance may be greater than the annual cost of fuel for these larger engines -- however, since most people are reminded of the cost of gasoline every time they fill up (which could be weekly), it gets their attention. I have not seen many complaints about the cost of liability insurance (mainly because it is mandated by law, so you have to buy insurance to drive).

Ya I agree... I know about global warming... but when they start knocking these SUVs off the road then I'll start conserving on I6 engines instead of V10s errr I mean V8s

I'm not saying ALL SUV's you better have a good reason for it! Like X amounts of lift tickets a year to prove you use the SUV to go up the mountain or somthing... Moms with SUVs to drive to and from school is not a good reason.


Sooooo if they can enjoy gas guzzling SUVs I'll enjoy my gas guzzling V8. Hey I'm already paying a penality arnt I? more $$ at the gas pump for premium gas vs others who use regular.

Gas mileage actually factored heavily in my decision to buy a 5 series. All my criteria intersected and steered me towards the 06 530i with its good highway mileage (among its many other attributes). I just got the car, so it remains to be seen how it does, but I anticipate getting at least 30 with it. My current car is rated at the same highway mileage (30) and my average is generally 30 or so due to what is predominantly highway driving.

I should say my soon to be sold car is very good on gas. My driving is as close to all highway as it gets so I've got a good shot of getting good mileage with my new 530. I drive 25 miles each way to work, doing about 70-85mph. We'll see I suppose.

I agree- if you are going to spend $60K for a car, you should be able to handle an extra $1K/yr for gas. Also, I am not going to lose any sleep about the enviromental effects of my 20 mpg (in normal usage) 545 when I am surrounded by Yukons, Durangos, Excursions, and Escalades that get half that.....
