for those guys that have upgraded to M5's, have you notice any increase maintenance costs? I keep hearing from various people that the M cars have a higher maintenance cost associated with them especially once they get older. It has kind of scared me away from considering an M5.

Yes. I would buy another e60. Or should I say, I would do it all over again. But my next cat will likely be an M3 (or maybe I will just jump right to the 9114S)--but that won't be for a long time.

There is no other Sedan with Manual 6 speed, rear wheel drive that's fun to drive everyday. The E60 wins in this category.
I would go from 550 to M5 (Manual)

I purchased my 04 530i 5 years ago this month. I have put 75K miles on it. I have done a fair amount of preventative maintenance on it and it has been and continues to be a joy to drive. I am so excited that I just received my title in the mail last week and it now owner free and clear also. I have taken very good care of it so now hopefully I can enjoy the fruits of my labor for years and miles to come. Sure there are lemons in every model but if you stay on top of the maintenance you can drive these cars for a very long time.

I've only had my new to me E60 for a short time, but it's an excellent car!
that said tho, if I was going to add a similar car to the stable, i'd get an e39 540i/6, e39 m5, or e90 m3.

No. Instead of buying an additional E60, I would be too tempted to buy an M3(E36,E46) or maybe an E39 M5.... or...
If I could afford to keep my 5 and purchase an E60 M5 as well, I would in a heart beat. Now that BMW is discontinuing the inline-6 from their engine line up on new cars, I honestly want to keep my 06 525(N52B30) even more.

You bet. I am actually looking right now. The wife drives the current 530i all the time, so I need one of my own.
