Winter wheels and tires on my 550i (pics)
#1
I posted this on Bimmerfest but I'll post it here too.
Here are some pictures of the winter wheels and tires I just put on my 2006 550i. I purchased them at The Tire Rack. They are 18x8 ASA AR1 wheels with Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero tires (245/40-18). I think they look pretty good, and they seem to ride a little better than the runflat Bridgestones that came with the car. Since my car is a 2006, I didn't need to have the tire pressure monitors installed in each wheel. Hopefully the Pirellis will perform in the snow/ice as well as the Blizzak LM-22s that I had on my E46.

Looking good!
IMHO those rims actually look like OEM rims. There are so many "winter wheels" offered that just look cheap compared to the rest of the car, and therefore out of place. These ASAs you have fit the car very well.
Good luck with the snow & ice - especially with all that power under your right foot!
cheers

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Looks great, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on the car wash to keep those nooks and crannies clean and salt-free. When you don't keep them clean, those after-market finishes start to roll right off the wheels...I know. :'(
Simple is best for winter shoes...

Looks great. I was going to go with these wheels but the service advisor at Tirerack said that they weren't recommended for winter use.

I wouldn't worry about it. I agree that you don't want or need expensive wheels in the winter -- it's likely that the main reason why someone didn't recommend them for winter is strictly a cosmetic one as I mentioned earlier...
