It's not only for the snow you switch to winters, it's the temperature too. The winter tyres are designed to operate in a winter temp range, and summers in a summer temp range. Although, saying that, I'm still a bit annoyed that I can't set off even in 2nd on full power without spinning the wheels. It's fun though, so I still keep doing it.

I'm fully aware of that fact but I'm still much happier with cold summer tires on dry pavement than switching to the winter setup and missing the handling and looks of the summer setup. Once the first snow hits, I take the plunge and make the changeover happen. (I'm thinking it's going to be this weekend now...)

Am I the only person who has a winter staggered setup which is the 245/275 on my old 18 124's. I get killer snow traction (maybe not as good as 17's or 245 rears) but I really care about the stopping aspect. I can really only tell the performance difference right when I switch from my 172's. I don't think the 19's give me that much of a performance difference compared to the 18's I figured that I will sacrafice some snow performance for the 10-15 times a year the snow is on the roads compared to the 100+ days it doesn't. What would be cool to see is a snow test with 2 E60's one with 17's(225's) and the other with 18's(245's) so one could see the real difference

I added my winter tires after skipping all winter last year. It was just in time. We had up to 12". I drove from Charlotte to Winston-Salem with my Continental ContiWinterContact TS810s. They are not as aggressive as the Blizzaks or others out there, but then again I live in NC where snow is rare. The roads were plain crummy and I counted countless spun out cars and bumpkins in pickups without traction while I had no problem.

Big snow coming here in NJ. I have had the Blizzaks on since early November. This will be the first time we have had a real good snow to test. I go with on 18s but take off the 275VR35s in the rear. There is some difference in performance but I try not to go all during the winter months anyway.
