The rims can be repaired to new quite easily..... But I would really reco putting your winters on separate wheels to maintain your summer wheels and make the change over simple and eliminate the chance of this occurring again......sorry for your aggravation
I agree 100%. The runflats were just about toast on the 18's so I was in the process of making them my dedicated winter set up when this all happened. Actually one of the rears runflats had an 8" long crack on the interior sidewall of the tire about half the thickness of the sidewall which was noticed upon removal. Not safe at all, it's a good thing I I live in a cold climate and changed them out when I did. I agree C, another reason to hate runflats, as if we needed another reason.

be careful if they offer you replacement wheels more than likely they will try to sneak in replicas.

The factory 18's were in need of new tires, so I decided it was the perfect time to make them my dedicated winter wheel/tire setup.
That?s a relief (in a way) as you aren?t planning on using them for summer again. Makes perfect sense.

I am glad they are taking responsibility although a sign of remorse would have been nice.

[oh, and thank you for your vote(s)]

Some places (or maybe a lot) don't have the equipment needed to deal with RFTs. That's probably why they struggled with it. They knew they damaged your rim, why they just didn't come out and tell you is highly questionable. I would avoid them like the plague after this.

Too true, unfortunately.

Sorry you had to go through this ... too. I had the same problem at a national chain shop (Just Tires) when I had them remove the original runflats for winter rubber (same Dunlops you put on). I had to have one wheel repainted ($129) ... but it looked great afterwards.

You've got the right idea, though ... use the stock rims for a winter set-up and then go buy some cool rims for next summer. Have you thought about the new sport wheels on the LCI 6 series?

Yeah, probably 5 times as much as they charged for the original job.

I guess if you are satisfied with repaired wheels when you went in with mint condition ones.

I'm sorry to hear what happened that's why I went to the dealership and let them install the snows and remove the runflats. Good Luck...

I put a call in to the dealership and got pricing on replacement rims. I also put in a call to a local reputable guy who does rim repair, haven't heard back from him so no resolution as of yet.
I know, I know, hindsight 20/20 I probably should have just brought it to the dealer for the tire swap but:
A) I have had tires replaced on my Rover at the same shop with no issues. I know, not the same, stop yelling at me.
I asked the manager before hand if they had done BMW's with runflats before, he answered with a confident "yes".
C) I actually mentioned that people said I should go to the dealership to get this done and said I was a bit worried. He assured me they wouldn't have any trouble.
D) ANSWERS B and C FALSE
They didn't have any trouble, instead they had a lot of trouble. I think the rims will be fine once repaired but I am miffed that my once virgin rims have been defiled. Just knowing that some one else was intimate with my delicate rims vexes me. I should be the one wrecking the rims with haphazard alloy to concrete curb contact in some fast food restaurant drive through not some tire jockey with a greasy mullet. Damn it, I may go curb one right now just to get it over with.
Honey!!! Do you think KFC is still open?!?!?!?
