Winter tire question

A silly quarter inch
I have another one for you Luigi.
You and I both have '07 530xi's. So you know the correct tire sizing for snows is 225/50/R17. I'm eyeing a good price I'm seeing on Craigslist for a set of Mastercraft snows in 215/50R17. What am I going to experience if I go with a quarter-inch narrower tire?

OK, I finally found a set of 245/40-18 winter tires, but the wheels have an offset of 15. Will these be OK, or do I need spacers?
It's a 2008 535i w/ sport package.

Your sidewall will change from stock 50% of 225 -> 50% of 215.
