Hello
New to the forum and I have a question for anyone who may have some experience with this subject.
I have a new 07 550i 1 week old, I live in nj and want to keep the 18'' look but need snow tires, is this a mistake putting 18'' for snows. I have had other high performance cars E55 with 17'' and was told never put large tires on for winter, I just don't like the look of 17'' on the 550i. My plan is to use the OEM wheels and put snows on them and then get M5 wheels for summer, or similar type wheels. I would appreciate any help you can offer and the sooner the better as I need to get these tires mounted and purchased this week.

Thanks
Ant 550

There are a number posts on this and I'd read these.

I feel the same as you, 17's just don't cut it on the E60. My SA recommended 17's because the narrower contact profile creates more pressure per surface area and thus more traction. Whatever. I'm going with 18's snow tires, just haven't found the rims yet. I figure winter seasons are long here in Chicago and I'm not gonna worry about lots of snow. If we get a blizzard, I'm staying in.

Good luck.

Buy some nice winter tyres for your OEM 17" wheels and then a new OEM 19" non RF set for the summer.

I read it that the OP has 18 inch wheels.

You are corrct the wheels are 18'' not 17'' so that really doesn't answer my question. I just found some 18'' from a 03 M5 black powder coated that I may just put some snows on.

Welcome aboard Ant and congrats on your new 550i.

Putting snows on your stock wheels will work just fine. See my sig below for my set-up. Then you can get some great looking summer wheels next year. Also, dumping the run-flats improves the ride significantly.

Make sure these are hubcentric rims that fit the E60. Most rims are but I'm not sure about all E39 compatible rims. I'm think inexpensive winter rims (i.e., replicas) make the most sense, which means you can use the original RFT rubber (which you paid for) and put the snow package on/off whenever you like. Plus, the OEM 124s can be saved from the elements too, which help finance the 19s down the road. I'm pulling the trigger on some 128 replicas for my winter setup.

My two cents.

PS post some pics of those rims.

I was able to get unsused from an 02 M5 OEM wheels from a guy in CA he had them powdercoated and I just purchased Dunlop M3 snowsports with the TPM from tirerack
The wheels cost me $850 so I think was a great deal.

Are the wheels hubcentric? OEMs are obviously the best option. Great choice with the M3 Dunlops.

When you say OEM do you mean OEM or do you mean the other meaning of OEM?
