Hi Guys, I parked my 545i sport in the garage for the winter and know that if i keep it like that for a while my battery may discharge and all kinds of light will appear when i get to start it again later. i was hoping someone could explain what i can do to avoid that. i heard there are some power hook ups to the battery but dont know how/what/ what brand how much? thanks

This is what I used for my automobiles, lawn mower, and ATVs/quad-bikes. I use the medium 6A charging rate when I am working on the vehicle with doors open. For a lower capacity 2A trickle charger / maintainer, lower cost units are available.

"10 Amp Fast Charge ? charger monitors battery condition and adjusts charge rate downward to prevent battery damage; for car, light truck, marine, RV, farm equipment, AGM, gel cell and deep-cycle batteries ? 6 Amp Medium Charge ? self-adjusting charge rate for everyday charging needs and keeping your battery in peak condition ? 2 Amp Slow Charge ? for charging and maintaining small batteries; charges motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile and lawn tractor batteries ? Auto Voltage Detection ? the charger automatically determines whether the connected battery is a 6 Volt battery or a 12 Volt battery."

Terminal under the hood - lots of posts about using a trickle charger.

I bought this a while back:

There's a 12V port in the trunk to plug this thing and maintain your battery.

what about these "Battery Tender" gizmos? I have had one a couple of years. Saw it on one of the exotic car shows for guys who store their cars. http://www.marinemagik.com/index.php...roducts_id=256

I use it on boat batteries, snowmobiles, etc. Seems great. Haven't stored a car, so don't know in this case.
